So, as I am sure you have heard, Twitter has purchased Tweetie. And as an added bonus for Loren Britcher (developer of Tweetie), he has been hired by Twitter to work on their mobile development. I won’t go into the details. You can read all about it on the Twitter blog - Twitter for Iphone.
This a prime example of a developer seeing a void and filling it. As Loren puts it,
“I wanted a better Twitter app for my iPhone, so I wrote one” - http://news.atebits.com/post/509476371/an-amazing-ride.
Not only did he write one, he wrote the most visually attractive, smartest Twitter application on the web. That is why Twitter bought it. Tweetie is the leader. Not only because it is beautiful, or because it is smart. It is the best because it has both Beauty and Brains. This a lesson to every developer, myself included.
